That they might bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the city of David (I Kings 8:1)

"Ark" meant a chest or container to the translators of the King James Version (KJV)—note their use of the same word for Noah's ark, though the Hebrew is not the same. For this "ark of the covenant," associated with the presence of the Lord, see, e.g., Deut. 10:1-5, Num. 10:33-36, Josh. 3:9-17. David had brought the ark to Jerusalem, where it remained in a special tent until Solomon built the temple and placed the ark there.

The cloud filled the house of the Lord (I Kings 8:10)
