Out of this world

From the January 1978 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The way to leave the world?
Not by dying.
Impossible that way.
By not moving or replying
when spoken to? That's not it,
not it at all.

Indestructible self
journeys entirely free
of the calibrating "me"
who thinks he can choose
this method or that,
put on any "hat,"
whittle himself to a form
the world calls norm.

Spirit lifts the wing
above earth or air,
beyond the rim of space.
Thus, thus we leave the world,
not going anywhere.
