From time to time letters that branch church committees and boards have sent to their memberships are submitted to Church in Action. Some carry reports and information of a practical nature. Others simply communicate friendliness, like the one sent by a membership committee that said: "We are writing to tell you that we love you and we are grateful for you as a fellow member. . . . We would like to thank you specifically for what you have so lovingly done for us in the past. . . ." This was followed by acknowledgment of the work and specific positions held by the member addressed.
Recently one branch church board in England sent its membership a letter about the healing work and purpose of church. The message was especially thoughtful and worth sharing. It reads in part: "During recent months your Board has been discussing how our church can better fulfill its healing function within the community it is here to serve.
"Our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, was well aware of the need for good and consistent healing in the development of her Church. In a letter to Edward A. Kimball (dated 26th November, 1903) she wrote: 'Our cause demands better healers . . . . I am sorely disappointed in the demonstration of C. S. and it must improve or our cause will float into theory and we will not "show our faith by our works." A chatterer of C. S. is never a healer.'
