Christianly scientific power

From the January 1980 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Thousands of years ago, the biblical Chronicler tells us, King David prayed in the presence of his people, "Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all."I Chron. 29:11; Clearly, this thinker perceived true power to be a spiritual force, originating with God. Centuries later Christ Jesus, as the Son of God, would demonstrate divine power to destroy unclean spirits, to heal sickness, to replace the belief of discordant substance with wholeness.

Today we're free to utilize this same spiritual power, unspent in our midst, to govern ourselves and our affairs. Through prayer we learn to entertain the God-bestowed consciousness of power that flows from what St. Paul called "the mind of Christ." We express spiritual power for the purpose of glorifying God.

We call this power Christian because it's the spiritual might Christ Jesus exemplified; and we say it's scientific because, when understood and properly drawn upon, this power functions in our lives as exact and accurate Science. In yet a deeper sense, the term "Christian Science" means the very law of Mind, revealing the Christ, or Truth, practiced by Jesus.
