Poems

Angels

From the January 1980 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"The chariots of God . . .
twenty thousand, even thousands
of angels"—
did they carry the beggar into Abraham's bosom?
Could these same angels have ministered to Jesus
after he was tempted of the devil?
Could one of these angels
have rolled back the stone
from the door of the sepulcher?

Yes indeed!
Though angels have no weight, volume, or dimension,
they have power, potency, and puissance,
for they are thoughts
allied to God,
and God has no physical characteristics.
He is all-power, all-potency, All-in-all.

At each momentous act
or announcement
or manifestation
there is an angel at hand
to succor, sustain, and support.
Remember Jacob and his ladder;
Elijah and his juniper tree;
Daniel and his lions;
Mary and her spiritual communion with God;
Peter and his release;
John and the little book.

The angel with the little book
has already come.
"Take it, and eat it up;
and it shall make thy belly bitter,
but it shall be in thy mouth
sweet as honey"
when you prove the truths of
Christian Science absolutely

and find yourself—
perfect.
