Warriors of the night or children of light?

From the January 1980 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Sensual life styles, gang brutality, and sexual perversion confront us on the human scene and in the media. What can caring adults do to protect children— their own and others'? Sociologists and educators urge: "Become aware of what's happening. Know what kids are watching on TV and discuss the programs without moralizing. Join in corrective measures." Christian Scientists would generally agree but would go beyond these measures to realize the necessity of starting from a spiritual standpoint. Only so can we bring out positive, permanent results.

This spiritual approach is explained in Christian Science. God, impartial Love, governs all His children harmoniously. Spirit is man's Life, substance, intelligence. All reality is spiritual. In a Glossary of biblical concepts (see Science and Health), Mrs. Eddy speaks of "children" as "the spiritual thoughts and representatives of Life, Truth, and Love."Science and Health, p. 582;

The Christ, God's healing and saving light, makes the truth of being universally available—to both adults and youth. Christ Jesus so fully understood and lived this light that he could say, "I am the light of the world."John 8:12; Through his conscious oneness with his heavenly Father—the Principle of harmonious man—he destroyed the darkness of disease and insanity. A child torn with epilepsy was healed; the demoniac, running naked in the tombs, was restored—found "sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind."Mark 5:15; Jesus' follower Paul perceived the equity of sonship signaled by such healing. "Ye are all the children of light," he wrote, "and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness."Thess. 5:5;
