Healings in Christian Science are often instant, but sometimes deeper study and spiritual lessons precede the completion of a healing. As I have relied on Science since I was a small child, my gratitude is great for many instantaneous or quick healings.
The first of these occurred at the age of eight after I tumbled headlong onto a rough pavement while roller skating. No adult was present, but I simply declared, as I had been taught in Christian Science Sunday School, that God is All, God is good, so there can be nothing but good. Immediately the pain and evidence of badly skinned and bleeding knees completely disappeared. At that early age I had received a powerful proof of the healing efficacy of a simple statement of absolute truth.
Later, when I was the mother of young children, there were similar quick healings. After our three-year-old daughter had been stung by a swarm of yellow jackets, I allayed her terror and pain by assuring her that she was completely surrounded by divine Love, God, so that nothing unlike Him could really touch her. I then read aloud the twenty-third Psalm from the Bible. In a matter of minutes she was calmed and healed, and no trace of the stings remained.
