"All things work together for good to them that love God" (Rom. 8:28). As our love is actively expressed in an unwavering trust in God, who is divine Principle, Love, we receive proofs that this Scripture is true.
In 1943 I was confined in a prisoner of war camp in northern Italy. The inmates consisted of approximately one thousand officers. A few other prisoners and I spent many hours preparing an escape plan to be put into operation at the proper time.
Because of changing circumstances the atmosphere became tense, and a dreadful feeling of foreboding settled over the camp. I took my copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and secluded myself. As I prayed for comfort and support, the book fell open to page 481, and I read this passage: "Man is tributary to God, Spirit, and to nothing else. God's being is infinity, freedom, harmony, and boundless bliss. 'Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.'" This was encouraging, and I endeavored to be grateful for God's love and guidance.
