At one time I was suffering from pain in my heart and stiffness in my limbs. I wasn't able to get dressed without help; I had to be assisted out of bed. I was in much distress, and it was difficult to find a comfortable position in which to sleep.
I contacted a Christian Science practitioner who lived in another city, quite a distance away. She gave me treatment and we corresponded by mail. She also guided me in my own study and recommended articles from the Christian Science periodicals for me to read. Gradually I improved enough to drive the car and enjoyed going to the Christian Science Reading Room and to church.
My healing came soon after I received a glimpse one day of the fact that I am actually the expressed image of God—I am never separate from Him. This insight topped off a period of spiritual growth and enlightenment. As Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 548): "Every agony of mortal error helps error to destroy error, and so aids the apprehension of immortal Truth. This is the new birth going on hourly, by which men may entertain angels, the true ideas of God, the spiritual sense of being."
