You can help enlighten the world

From the September 1980 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Quite an order, it's true. But hear these words of our Leader, Mrs. Eddy: "A Christian Scientist occupies the place at this period of which Jesus spoke to his disciples, when he said: 'Ye are the salt of the earth.' 'Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.'"Science and Health, p. 367;

Why is this true of the Christian Scientist? Because he possesses some understanding of the truth that Jesus said frees: the perfection of God and of man in His likeness. He's learning that this eternal verity will eventually liberate the entire world from sin, suffering, and death. Truly the Christian Scientist should not hide this light under a bushel.

The fact is, the light of Truth, or spirit of the Christ, is inherent in everyone. John said of it, "That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world."John 1:9 Because each one of us is in reality God's idea, each is spiritually enlightened by the understanding of God. But the individual needs to tend this light, to reflect it, to consciously accept the Christ, Truth, which Christian Science explains scientifically.
