The deep study of Christian Science during the past five years has brought physical healings as well as freedom from timidity and self-depreciation.
My election as a Reader in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, has proved to me beyond doubt that the office carries with it the ability to perform the required duties. In my prayerful preparation for the quarterly meeting at church where we were to elect officers, I had endeavored to be more aware of the fact that God alone governs. This being true, and I deeply believe that it is, I felt that I could not remove my name from any of the ballots. However, the subtlety of mortal mind crept in, and I thought, "I know I can't read well, so I certainly won't be elected Reader!" I was elected.
I had to decide during the next few days whether my noble-sounding professions concerning God's unerring government had just been pretty words or whether I was going to stand by what I believed. I pondered uplifting truths of Science I had learned in class instruction, and the thought that stopped fear in full flight was, "Your love is greater than your fear." This inspiration was the premise from which I was able to reverse every mortal suggestion as to why I thought I could not fulfill the office of Reader. What joy and spiritual growth this brought!
