For nearly forty years I worked as a traveling salesman. Many have been the instances of healing, protection, and guidance through prayerfully applying the teachings of Christian Science, both at home and while on the road.
As I was driving on a mountain pass one rainy night, it was almost as though I heard a voice say, "Slow down at once." I obeyed, and in the next curve my car's headlights disclosed a huge boulder in my lane. I was able to avoid hitting it. Truly the Bible promises (Isa. 30:21), "And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left."
Returning home late one night, I found my wife was still up with our third daughter, who had been extremely fussy for several days and nights. I took the little one in my arms, sat down, and began to read the chapter entitled "Recapitulation" in our textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I stopped when I reached these statements on page 473: "The Science of Mind disposes of all evil. Truth, God, is not the father of error." Also, "God is everywhere, and nothing apart from Him is present or has power." I reasoned that whatever seemed to be disturbing the child was not caused by God, hence it did not in reality exist; therefore it had neither presence nor power. Also, I affirmed that scientific truth really "disposes of all evil." Our daughter relaxed and went to sleep. Shortly I put her to bed, and we all had a restful night. She was healed.
