Our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, writes in Retrospection and Introspection (p. 50), "Loyal students speak with delight of their pupilage, and of what it has done for them, and for others through them." It is with great delight that I submit the following proofs of the healing power of God's law when applied in one's everyday experiences.
My junior year of college was spent studying in an overseas country. I had been looking forward to that year for a long time. Yet, from the beginning it seemed plagued with unforeseen difficulties, and all at once I felt extremely lonely and unhappy. I tried earnestly, as I had been taught in the Christian Science Sunday School, to see the unreality of this false view of man as separated from his Father-Mother God, or from goodness and integrity, which derive from Life and Love. However, my thought was still very "me" centered. For a while I even felt that it didn't matter if I was unhappy; as long as I knew that God was with me, I could spend the whole year in my room getting to know Him better. But certainly that was not intelligent reasoning, for it started with mortal man—not with God.
As I became more conscious of God's true nature and less materially self conscious, I began to see the infinite opportunities God continually provides for our joy and fulfillment, and for harmonious activity. I could not stay secluded in my room with my light under a bushel. Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health (p. 57): "Happiness is spiritual, born of Truth and Love. It is unselfish; therefore it cannot exist alone, but requires all mankind to share it." New friendships developed that were strong, active, joyous, and kind. A particular burden that before had seemed overwhelming was suddenly taken care of in a proper and loving way. Opportunities opened up that I had never imagined. And God's nearness and guidance continued to be evident in all my travels and activities.
