Although I had an early introduction to Christian Science, in later years my interest in and fidelity to its sound teachings waned. On one not-so-bright day during World War II, however, all this changed.
At the time, I was flying a transport plane to China from India. We had reached the halfway mark, or point of no return, called the "Hump" (that part of the Himalayas running almost the length of Burma) when suddenly our plane was crippled by Japanese antiaircraft fire.
We had only a few seconds to decide whether to bail out, but in those few seconds I turned humbly to God. At that moment of great need I prayed with sincere, childlike reliance on Him.
