Although I was born and brought up in a home where Christian Science was studied and practiced, I never really had to prove the truths of this Science for myself until I served in the United States Air Force for four years. Then I found out how much daily guidance and protection I could receive from trusting in our Father-Mother God through prayer.
I was grateful to be given choice assignments at some excellent air bases in the United States and overseas. While serving at one base I was able to fill in as a substitute Second Reader in the local branch Church of Christ, Scientist. When I returned from a tour of duty overseas, it was New Year's Eve of 1966. I can still recall standing in our living room with family and relatives gathered around, feeling a closeness to God I had never felt before. I prayed, silently and simply, "Thank you, God." My harmonious years in the service were proof of what I knew in my heart— that when one prays to God with a scientific understanding of Him, that prayer will have its answer.
After I left military service I was able to find a job, which lasted fourteen years, with a company in the electronic and computer field. When I first applied for a job at this company, the man in the employment office told me there were no openings. But as I was leaving the building, the same man came rushing up to me and said, "Wait a minute. I have an idea that may be of interest to you." As it turned out, a position was created just for me. Before that, I had gone through two state employment offices and exhausted all the leads. Yet I had known that God cares fully for all His children. He never takes them only part of the way. My taking the job proved to be a blessing for all those involved.
