Relate to God

From the November 1982 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Christian who ponders statements and actions of Christ Jesus can't help feeling profoundly impressed by the consistency and depth with which he related his life to God. Today we attempt to follow his example in relating to God—we think of God and pray to Him. But Jesus showed what it meant to be entirely at one with Deity—a oneness that led to his ascension, his full demonstration that man is inseparable from God.

Jesus' ascension was inevitable because he related himself to God, divine Life, rather than to mortality. And yet his complete turning to God didn't result in a failure to show compassion, free the sinner, cherish a child, revive the deceased; in fact, it was this growing unity with God that gave him the ability to perform his acts of healing. "I and my Father are one," John 10:30. he explained simply.

Mary Baker Eddy will one day be more widely recognized as the revolutionary thinker of this age. Religious convictions she shared with the world came to her through divine revelation. As a dedicated follower of Christ Jesus, her view of reality coincided with the view he held, because for both of them, God Himself revealed reality.
