"If there be first a willing mind..."

From the September 1982 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For many students of Christian Science, it may be a dramatic experience the first time they recognize their responsibility to be willing to practice Christian Science healing for others. Whether sparked by someone's request, or simply by our own widening apprehension, we see that, as Christ Jesus' followers, we are in a sense already in the healing practice, in accord with the Master's standard, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do."John 14:12.

Perhaps many have felt a bit reluctant when asked by another to give Christian Science treatment. Not that the student doubts the ability of this Science to heal; one would hardly rely wholly on it without a deep conviction, generally backed by repeated proof, of its reliability. Nor does he consciously doubt God's, divine Love's, tender care for His spiritual creation. The element of fear most commonly enters as one doubts (1) his own ability to practice this Science successfully; (2) the patient's receptivity to the healing Christ; or (3) both!

What can we do when unreasoning fear denies our ability to practice Christian Science healing?
