I count as one of my greatest blessings my parents' application of the teachings of Christian Science in raising their family. Regular study of the Bible Lessons outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly, practicing what I'd gained from this study, and attendance at a Christian Science Sunday School laid a foundation of trust in God that became a first resort in time of need. Physical ailments were few, and those we had were healed—usually quickly—through the prayers of my parents or with the help of a Christian Science practitioner.
An outstanding healing occurred when I was a teen-ager traveling in Europe with my family. An outbreak of polio was reported in the country we were visiting, and I became quite ill with what appeared to be the symptoms of that disease.
My parents took turns staying with me around the clock in the hotel room, gently caring for my physical needs, and praying and reading to me from the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy. A Christian Science practitioner in the United States, contacted by telegram, also prayed for me. I was completely healed in a week, and the family resumed an active travel schedule.
