It is high time I submit another testimony. When I faced up to the challenge of writing one, I saw that I really wanted to. After that the testimony practically wrote itself. My first testimony appeared in the April 1957 issue of The Christian Science Journal, and the healings related there have been permanent. The understanding I've gained of God and His universe through the teachings of Christian Science continues to bless me daily, and I am grateful.
About nine years ago my teacher in Christian Science was helping me through prayer with several problems, when I began to suffer from what appeared to be some form of heart trouble. At that point I telephoned my teacher and asked him to discontinue treatment as I felt I needed to do my own prayerful work. I realized the severity of this claim one noon when I was in the city, on my way down a steep hill. I felt I just had to sit down or I would lose consciousness. But the curb was the only place to sit. My fear was that if I blacked out, being alone, someone would call an ambulance. I knew this simply must not happen.
I was able to proceed until I reached a card shop, where I went in and stood still, pretending to look at cards. (Actually, I was praying very earnestly.) After that, I managed to do what I had come downtown to do. But then I was faced with going back up the hill.
