THE CHURCH IN ACTION

A church testifies

From the July 1984 issue of The Christian Science Journal

First Church of Christ, Scientist, Aurora, Illinois, has sent in a collection of reports and testimonies prepared by its members especially for "The Church in Action" section. The following are only a portion of what was sent.

Some years ago I attended a Bible study group at which the leader attacked Christian Science quite viciously. I was disturbed because I knew that the things she said were not true. I was born a Protestant and had attended a Protestant church regularly. I also had been a soloist in a Christian Science branch church for fifteen years. During those years I had studied the Bible Lessons as a help in selecting the solos. Upon leaving this position, I felt much discontentment and became in general a very angry person. I was searching for something and read much religious material. Now, after hearing this attack, I decided to find out all about Christian Science.

I began regularly attending Sunday and Wednesday evening services at the local branch church and visiting the Reading Room almost daily. The librarians were untiring in helping me. I had appointments with a Christian Science practitioner, who lovingly helped me realize for the first time in my life that God is Love and that I was His image and likeness, that He loved me and wanted only good for me, as well as for everyone else. The light had come, and I found what I had been searching for.
