No need to sentence yourself

From the July 1984 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Many believe they are at present sinning mortals separated from God, their divine source, hoping one day to win their way back to divine favor. Yet Christian Science assures us of man's divine and continuing sonship, which has never been interrupted by mortality.

In the Christian Science textbook Mrs. Eddy refers to justice as an attribute of God (see Science and Health 465:14-15). Unjust punishment does not—cannot— therefore, stem from God, divine Love, and as God's children we have the right to claim our exemption from penalties imposed upon us through a false sense of law.

It is important to note that nowhere in her writings does Mrs. Eddy indicate that sin should go unpunished. Sin and its resultant suffering are clearly inseparable. Any action contrary to divine Principle needs to be acknowledged, repented of, and expunged by genuine reformation.
