Church: new bottle for new wine

From the July 1984 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Of fundamental importance to followers of Christ Jesus is his command "Ye must be born again." John 3:7.

We need this rebirth to realize our true identity as man created in God's likeness. Still, our immortal identity does not spring from mortal history; true identity is not created from "the old man," as Paul calls mortal selfhood (see Eph. 4:22-24). It forever reflects God, divine Principle, Spirit, Life, Truth, and Love.

The new birth—our awakening to real being—begins with consecration and increasing understanding of God and His "new," or real, spiritual man. It advances as we continue to discard error and demonstrate Truth.
