A gentle touch

Matthew 8:14, 15

From the September 1985 issue of The Christian Science Journal

How gently he restored her!
He merely touched her hand,
and she arose and cared for them;
yet what depth of consecration
preluded that kind act.
Such piercing clarity of truth
suffused his altitude of thought
that error's counterfeiting
could not choose but yield.
His instant seeing of the
perfect child of God
brought certain restoration
to his ailing friend.

We need that gentleness of touch
to aid us in our earnest prayers—
to lift our thought to swifter
demonstration, and certainty
of presence of the living Christ,
revealing God's all-cherished sons—
as we, in meek humility,
reach out to heal our ailing ones,
in imitation of our Master's way.
