When my mother was a child, her great-aunt was healed of a heart ailment through Christian Science prayer. As a result of this healing, my grandmother and grandfather enrolled their children in a Christian Science Sunday School. Years later, when I was three, my mother shared this blessing of Sunday School training by enrolling me.
When I was eight I became unable to control my body movements and my speech became slurred. Unusual circumstances resulted in obtaining a medical diagnosis of chorea, or St. Vitus' dance, but no medication was offered or taken. A Christian Science practitioner helped me through prayer, and my mother felt sure of our Father-Mother God's loving care for me as His child. She had utter confidence that I would be healed. (My mother was a single parent by then. She and my father had divorced when I was very young.)
At one point my mother and grandmother took me to live in another city. There they cared for my needs and read to me from the Bible, from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and from articles and testimonies in the Christian Science periodicals. Very soon I was better able to control my movements and speak more distinctly. In about two months the healing was complete and we returned home. I had no further problems.
