As a child, I lived next door to a family of Christian Scientists. I was impressed by the healings of their children. Later we moved to another state and found our new next-door neighbors were also Christian Scientists.
Because of the healings I had witnessed in both of these families, I eventually turned to Christian Science for help after having suffered from ten abscesses at the end of my spine which a doctor had been unable to cure. A Christian Science practitioner was called and agreed to pray for me. I was healed very shortly, and the problem never returned. Because of this my mother, dad, and brother began attending a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. (I attended the Sunday School.)
Several years later, when I had braces on my teeth, my gums became infected. The gums were fully restored, however, through the prayerful treatment of a practitioner. I thought about this statement from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy a lot (p. 463): "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive." Also this part of "the scientific statement of being" was very helpful to me (ibid., p. 468): "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all."
