"Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart" (Ps. 119:111).
I entered the business world as a young adult with a great sense of failure because of previous serious mistakes I'd made. My past record disqualified me from pursuing certain lifelong professional goals, so I turned at last to a company with ties to my family, and they gave me a job.
I felt a heavy burden of guilt for vanished life prospects, which seemed then irretrievably lost, and for the shame and disappointment I felt I had brought on my family and friends. Mired as I was in this depressing mental state, my work at the company was halfhearted at best. I just could not seem to shake the imprisoning belief that I was unloved and unwanted.
