I humbly listened for the "still small voice" to direct my path in achieving my educational degrees and in obtaining employment. It was not easy. Sometimes I would become fearful. At those times I called a Christian Science practitioner, who helped quiet my fear and explained that impatience sometimes conceals frustrated human will. I reasoned that in my true selfhood as God's expression— His child—I reflect the qualities of God, which include no fear. I express the intelligence and order and the obedience and integrity derived from divine Mind, or Principle.
One great statement that alleviated fear and brought inspiration was this one in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 128): "A knowledge of the Science of being develops the latent abilities and possibilities of man. It extends the atmosphere of thought, giving mortals access to broader and higher realms. It raises the thinker into his native air of insight and perspicacity." Trusting our Father-Mother God, I confidently and joyously expected good results.
At one time when I needed employment, I made a special effort to purge self of human will and rely on God's direction. A patient practitioner helped me understand that I could let God's plan for His creation unfold in my life with the result that I would be guided to a suitable place to live and to meaningful employment. When I was able to feel completely free from concern and declare honestly, "Father, where Thine own children are, / I love to be" (Poems by Mrs. Eddy, p. 13), I was offered and gratefully accepted a teaching position in another town.
