Christian Science came into my life more than thirty years ago, while I was living and working in Geneva, Switzerland. A copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy was put into my hands by the husband of a colleague. I felt at once that this book held the answers I had been seeking as to what life is really all about. I was not ready to accept Christian Science at the time, however, as I felt it would mean giving up the exciting professional and social life I was then leading. So, after reading a little of the book, I put it aside.
Not long after that I became ill, and the doctors could not diagnose the trouble. One day while lying in bed, I started reading Science and Health again. This time I did not put the book down until I had finished it. I decided there and then that I would accept and live by this teaching to the best of my ability. I discarded all my medicines and was up and around right away, fully recovered. I had been healed instantaneously.
The life I began leading as a student of Christian Science gave me a deeper, wider sense of existence, which made my previous way of life seem shallow and uninteresting by comparison. To the regret of my family and friends I gave up what had looked like a promising career and returned to England.
