Waiting to govern

From the February 1987 issue of The Christian Science Journal

All-embracing and endearing prayer"It shall be the duty of every member of this Church to pray each day: 'Thy kingdom come;' let the reign of divine Truth, Life, and Love be established in me, and rule out of me all sin; and may Thy Word enrich the affections of all mankind, and govern them!" —Mary Baker Eddy, Manual of The Mother Church, Article VIII, Section 4. not waiting for the pealing of a bell
early or late
this is the hour—
we need prayer with daily power
to quell dark hate.
This prayer first turns me to awareness
of kingdom undisturbed.
(Pause to unlock my door dark from within)
then "Let the reign..."

This is the invitation to serenity
banishing the hidden anarchy
of the carnal mind in me,
invitation to let the Christ come in,
tune out discordancy,
obliterate the false / disarm each enmity
without delay,
that order be established from within. . . .

Then angel trumpet call ". . . and may
Thy Word enrich..."
human thought with invisible law.
Let us feel its power
to strip dependency
on matter's promises purblind,
and thus to steer
us to Love's sovereignty
waiting, poised, to govern all mankind.
