Handling fear regarding children

From the February 1987 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Society rightly looks upon child care as a solemn responsibility. Fortunately the joys of parenthood usually outweigh the trials in carrying out this duty. But some parents find joy to be elusive because they feel burdened with recurrent anxieties and frustrations. They may see their children as susceptible to an endless round of hazards and live in fear over the prospect of possible calamities.

The antidote to fear is the Christian message of divine Love. Christian Science develops this statement so clearly that anyone who turns humbly to its teachings can learn to trust God and understand why one's faith in God's power is warranted. This brings blessed release from fear.

That is not to suggest that Christian Scientists are never afraid for their children. But when they are, they know that through prayer they can regain the assurance that God is ever-present Love, always caring for His little ones. This truth brings needed serenity. It imparts confidence in the triumph of God's goodness, even when at the moment the human outlook seems bleak.
