The Bible teaches that God is infinite, that "the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain him." II Chron. 2:6. He is Spirit, not "contained" in anything but universally reflected or expressed in spiritual man and the universe. He is I am, all-inclusive Being, or Life, forever pouring out an abundance of good. The psalms abound in praise and gratitude for the mercy, the goodness, the lovingkindness, of our God, for His protecting and saving power, patience, and tender care. Many much-loved accounts of Biblical figures illustrate how those who put their trust in God can be certain of His help. Only those who in doubt, ignorance, or self-will turn from Him, and look for salvation everywhere but to Him, shut themselves off from His blessings—like someone who shuts out the sunshine by pulling down the blinds. God imparts health, peace, strength, joy, and through our efforts to express these and other divine qualities, our daily needs are met. Whatever our circumstances may be, nothing can separate us from Him and His loving impartations. This is the spiritual fact.
To the human view of things, however, all appears to come from outside sources, and being material, is limited and fluctuating. One may be well today, sick tomorrow. One may have many worldly possessions and lose them overnight. Both sickness and loss—as well as other human ills—stem from a belief that life and joy are material. Such a sense of existence is always insecure because it is based on resources that are finite and liable to run out. Christ Jesus came to break this belief or dream, to show us that his Father is also our Father, and that we too can heal, if we will only abide by his teaching and example.
We are all God's sons and daughters in our true selfhood, always with our Father, beloved and blessed. We do not own a private, personal mind or intelligence but express the infinite possibilities of divine Mind. Our seeing and hearing are not localized in physical organs, susceptible to deterioration, but are the manifestation of Mind's infinite consciousness. Our health, too, is not a quality of matter but an undisturbed, abiding consciousness of harmony, the gift of divine Love to man. Our supply does not come from limited, exhaustible, outside sources but pours forth incessantly, abundantly, from God. And because our true being expresses His infinite good, we already have all we could possibly need. Our love, reflecting the Love that is God, is not portioned out either. That means we do not divide up our heart among our loved ones, but can love each family member, each friend— even all mankind—with our whole heart! Contemplating these truths, understanding them and applying them, are we not infinitely blessed?
