OF NOTE THIS MONTH

From the February 1987 issue of The Christian Science Journal

... to a lecture—and we'll all be doing more of this—you may find another's experience helpful. Maybe you've had something similar happen to you.

A Sunday School pupil in high school invited a new friend to a lecture. The two young women sat beside me, and at the close of the lecture the Christian Scientist said to me in a desperate undertone, "That's the worst lecture I've ever heard."

It really wasn't a bad lecture; as a matter of fact it was a very good one, but she was hearing it through fear that her religion would not be well thought of. She wanted her guest to think well of her and her religion, and I doubt if anyone could have given a lecture at that point in time that would have pleased her.
