For many years when people asked me why I was a Christian Scientist, I felt embarrassed that I couldn't tell of some earthshaking healing I had had. Then one day it dawned on me that I didn't need to feel embarrassed at all. The freedom from sickness and accident that I had experienced from earliest childhood was a very substantial reason for holding to this way of life. This realization filled me with joy and gratitude and a sense of peace.
I saw that through consistent study and prayer one is continually raising thought to an enlarged understanding of God, which in turn provides protection and promotes healing. Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy includes this statement (p. 544): "All is under the control of the one Mind, even God." Because this is so and God is good, at any time only good can really be happening.
There are numerous specific healings for which I am very grateful. So-called childhood diseases were quickly healed, and I seldom missed school either as a student or later as a teacher.
