"The divine energy of Spirit"

From the March 1987 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Is it Spirit or matter that sustains man?

The Bible's approach to this most important subject provides definite proof of the power of God to maintain man's strength and vigor. For instance, in the Old Testament the book of Isaiah proclaims, "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." Isa. 40:31.And the Psalmist, from the mount of inspiration, sang, "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: . . . who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's." Ps. 103:2, 5.

Not long ago I had the opportunity to find my true source of energy during an extensive automobile trip throughout the midwestern part of my country. My wife accompanied me, and we were to cover more than ten thousand miles in a six-week period. Before long I began to feel the effects of extreme pressure over what still needed to be accomplished. In discussing the situation with my wife, I was duly reminded that it was my viewpoint on the situation that needed an immediate adjustment, not any change of human activity.
