Notes from Romania

From the April 1992 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Prior to the 1989 overthrow of the communist regime in Romania, there had been no open practice of Christian Science permitted in that country for nearly a half century.

Then in September 1990 more than twenty young Romanians attended the European Youth Meeting in Hamburg, Germany, sponsored by European Christian Scientists and The Mother Church. A few months later the Clerk's Department at The Mother Church asked Mrs. Verena Linning, a Christian Scientist in Hamburg who had got to know the Romanians at the Youth Meeting, if she would be willing to visit Romania as a representative of the Clerk's Department, offering support and answering the questions of those who were becoming acquainted with Christian Science in a country where there are no branch churches.

Mrs. Linning visited Romania in May of last year, and again in November. Here are some of Mrs. Linning's notes on her May trip. Excerpts from her second trip will appear in the June Journal.
