About thirty-five hundred church members, guests, and members of the press—the largest Annual Meeting attendance in the last several years—filled virtually every seat in The Mother Church Extension on June 8. And there was a remarkable family feeling about this impressive coming together, which was marked by candid treatment of sensitive issues, extensive disclosure of the Church's financial status, and gratitude for signals of progress and achievement during the past year.
As in most families passing through stressful times, there were some who felt serious concerns. But there was a reassuring consensus among many of those present that the difficult issues facing the Church could only be resolved by a membership united in prayer—and in gratitude for our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and her revolutionary book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
As you'll see, the reports indicated there was much to be thankful for during the past year—a substantial increase in the sales of Science and Health; an upsurge in membership admissions and new Christian Science practitioner listings; the formation of five new churches in eastern Germany; and an increase in financial contributions to The Mother Church.
