Expressing God's perfect vision of man

From the September 1992 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Discrediting material appearances, Christ Jesus saw others the way God created them: as the offspring of one infinite, incorporeal Spirit. The Master expressed God's perfect vision of man, who was made "very good," according to the first chapter of the Bible. Jesus' transcendent view of life had immediate healing effect; it caused eyes blind from birth to see. He knew that proper sight is a legitimate human need, which his loving Father fulfills through spiritual enlightenment.

The light of divine goodness illumines human consciousness and lets us see more of Spirit's creation, made in the divine likeness. God's image must be as unfailingly loving as divine Love itself. As we see our relatives, friends, neighbors, in a more loving and spiritual light, we'll find our affections less partial or selective in loving some but not others. Our love will be more Christlike, expressing the nature of God's consistent love for us all.

An understanding of Christ—the eternal idea of perfect Love, which Jesus' life fully exemplified—has a direct relation to all human sight, to the way we perceive ourselves, others, home, business, government, church. Through Christ, we can refuse to indulge the blinding elements of personal criticism, resentment, prejudice.
