Science and Health: Heart to heart

From the January 1994 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Time and again we hear how Science and Health has helped someone understand the Bible better. Here's how one woman's love for the Bible led her to offer Science and Health to a longtime friend after she attended a meeting sponsored by the Office of the Publisher of the Writings of Mary Baker Eddy.

"One of the important ideas I gained from the meeting was the naturalness of sharing the textbook, which is really sharing with someone his or her own individuality.

"In praying about this, I was led to read the chapter 'Fruitage' to see how the testifiers had come by their copies of the book. One thing that stood out to me was how ... many expressed gratitude for how the textbook had made the Bible so much more precious to them. Immediately I thought of a letter I'd had from an old friend over the holidays. I had told him of my work as Second Reader,Second Readers read passages from the Bible during Sunday services in Christian Science churches. and he said he enjoyed reading the Bible, too, but he had lost his copy during a recent move and needed to get a new one.
