Responding to the demand

From the January 1994 issue of The Christian Science Journal


"...the demand for this book constantly increases." The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 305. The book is Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. Its author, Mary Baker Eddy, is speaking of a demand that won't stop increasing, because it's not a demand in the usual sense of desire for a product.

Isn't the demand for Science and Health synonymous with mankind's desire for the Comforter, for "the Spirit of truth," or divine Science, that Jesus demonstrated and promised? The Comforter is here. It's universally available in Science and Health. ... through the Comforter, God speaks to the human heart; the Comforter is Truth ... acting in human consciousness. It impels, propels, compels each heart to turn toward God.

Many of you who are reading this message already know Truth's transforming power from your own experience. You've discovered and practiced this new/old living Christianity, and healings have come. Whether one is new to the practice of Christian Science or "experienced," there is joy in learning about someone else's discovery.
