Church news

From the October 1994 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Working at the flood relief center, some members of our Christian Science Society became closely acquainted with people whose lives had been affected by the flooding of the Mississippi and Des Moines Rivers. These contacts gave added significance to our preparatory work for a Christian Science lecture, which would address the subject of a secure home in the midst of disaster.

One member contacted two local radio stations to determine which one could broadcast a Christian Science lecture at prime time to a wide range of listeners. A large advertisement was secured to be placed on the front page of our TV Guide insert, and also a smaller one to be run throughout the week in seven area newspapers.

Another member recommended that an "In the news" piece in the August 9, 1993, Christian Science Sentinel, entitled "New life after the flood," be used for opening the thought of the community to the healing message of the lecture. The account included the story of Noah and the ark as an illustration of God's care, and mentioned the little town of Wayland, Missouri, as a modern example of such care.
