Deep answers to deep

From the October 1994 issue of The Christian Science Journal

At times we soar, uplifted to new views of God and man, feeling closer to our heavenly Father than to the air we breathe. But there are times when, even though we know intellectually that God is always present, we seem far from Him and unable to feel His unwavering love. It is at these moments we most need to challenge feelings of despondency or apathy, and to turn once again to the Word for inspiration.

The Bible tells us, "There is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding." Job 32:8. All inspiration is from God, and the fact is that man, inseparable from God, not only is already prepared to receive it but is full of the light of divine Love. At those times when we feel separated from God's love, we may need to correct certain patterns of thought in order to once again feel our unity with Love.

Inspiration is always spiritual, and therefore it is important not to look for it elsewhere than in Spirit. We need to turn from expecting a lift from a particular friend, location, or material substance to an expectation of gaining inspiration from new views of God and man. It is from God that we gather an enlarged sense of the beauty and goodness around us as well as a clearer perception of our true nature as the actual expression of God.
