Testimonies of Healing

To hold persistently to divine...

From the May 1994 issue of The Christian Science Journal

To hold persistently to divine Truth and to insist persistently for the truth will bring healing. Mary Baker Eddy writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "By lifting thought above error, or disease, and contending persistently for truth, you destroy error" (p. 400). And she writes in another passage, "...self-denial, sincerity, Christianity, and persistence alone win the prize, as they usually do in every department of life" (p. 462).

Persistence for the truth has brought healing to me. For a period of three years, I struggled with a very painful and stressful condition of the neck, shoulder, and arm on one side of my body. At times I was incapacitated and could not fasten buttons or closures on the back of my clothing or comb my hair. It seemed that for months on end I went to bed in pain and woke in pain. Also at this time I was struggling with feelings of anxiety, fear, and sadness, coupled with anger because of some immediate family difficulties. One of my parents was living three thousand miles away and going through very troubling times. It just seemed as if I were being pushed and shoved around mentally with so many problems, which were weighing on me heavily.

I turned to Christian Science to attempt to heal what I knew were not problems, but rather false beliefs. A Christian Science practitioner supported my efforts with daily prayer for over a year.
