"If I had been there, would I have recognized the significance of Christ Jesus' mission? If I had been there, would I have recognized what Mrs. Eddy was giving mankind? Would I do everything I could to support such great contributions to mankind?" These questions stirred deeply within me when I was asked to serve for a five-month period as a coordinator for the Publisher of Mary Baker Eddy's Writings; the purpose was to assist in making Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures more widely available to the public.
I was already very busy with my own affairs. But quietly and slowly it dawned on me that we are in the midst of a historic moment. A great need of our day is for people everywhere to know the Science of Christ, which is recorded in Science and Health, and to grasp that it's here to bless the millions who are seeking it. Most know the Bible is here, but haven't heard how Science and Health throws light on the sacred Scriptures and brings healing to the world today.
My conviction that it would be a magnificent contribution to mankind to help make Science and Health more universally accessible was accompanied by a growing awareness of a special kind of supply and demand. The demand is the hunger and the readiness on the part of the public for the message in Science and Health, and the supply—the message—meets the demand through the selfless willingness on the part of those who already love Science and Health to make it more available. The vastness of the demand can be seen in the sheer number of books and articles being published that speak to people's hunger for spiritual answers. The ability of the message in Science and Health to meet this demand is powerful and present. This awareness gave me a greater understanding and appreciation for Science and Health and its place in the world today.
