With this interview we continue to examine some of the challenges and opportunities facing Christian Scientists today from the perspective of someone involved directly with legal and legislative issues. is the Christian Science Committee on Publication 's Federal Representative in Washington, D.C. He is also a Christian Science practitioner and teacher and was formerly the Committee on Publication for Illinois. Phil was interviewed by , a contributing editor and Committee on Publication for Texas.
John Hueffner: To begin, Phil, some Christian Scientists may not realize there is a U.S. Federal Representative in the ranks of the Committee on Publication. What do you do?
Phil Davis: I work directly under the Manager of Committees on Publication. There are presently several divisions within the Manager's Office, and the position of U.S. Federal Representative is one of them. So, I'm really not the same as a state Committee on Publication, but part of a team that helps the Manager to fulfill his duties, which are defined in the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy. As with other division managers, most of my contact is with state Committees on Publication rather than directly with church members. In this way, church members, by staying in touch with their state and jurisdictional Committees on Publication, have one source for information about both state and federal legislative activity.
