The heavenly music of class instruction

From the February 1995 issue of The Christian Science Journal

PRIMARY class instruction in Christian Science provides systematic teaching of the divine Principle of this Science and its application to humanity. It lays the foundation for radical reliance on God and continued spiritual growth in the practice of Christian healing.

Divine Love impels the desire for class, Truth points the way, Spirit motivates the steps, Mind illumines the meaning, Principle guides the unfoldment, and Life fulfills the holy purpose in better men and women and more effective healers. Infinite Soul inspires what we might call the "music" of class instruction, which awakens mind and heart to understand and glorify God. Mary Baker Eddy writes, "Music is the harmony of being; but the music of Soul affords the only strains that thrill the chords of feeling and awaken the heart's harpstrings."Miscellaneous Writings, p. 106.

Class instruction enhances love of family, church, fellow workers, fellowman. It exposes evil and its effects as a deception, as unreal. Class increases the desire and improves the ability to heal as Jesus did. We leave class longing to dig deeper into the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings, to live purer lives, to be of greater service. As we privately practice what we learn, our ability to help others expands, and we may find ourselves growing naturally into the public practice of Christian Science.
