Mind governs all

From the February 1995 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When circumstances in our lives seem discordant or out of control, this declaration of God's absolute sovereignty— found in Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy—can be greatly reassuring: 'All 'is under the control of the one Mind, even God."
Science and Health, p. 544. It conveys the omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence of this Mind, of divine Love, leaving no doubt that the creator is in complete charge of His entire creation, regardless of appearances to the contrary. To understand this spiritual fact restores peace and harmony and brings physical healing.

Notice that God is referred to here as "the one Mind." Acknowledging Deity as the one divine intelligence governing all and being expressed by all is crucial in restoring order and harmony to our experience. Why? Because the illusion of billions of material and often conflicting mentalities is largely what underlies discord.

The false, material sense of life represents man as both creator and creation, including qualities of evil as well as good. Mentality is seen as a piece of matter, under the skull, and each separate mentality is held to be an originator of thought. Thus, identities often appear to be in disagreement and at cross purposes with each other. Were each one really to have his or her own intelligence, separate from God, there could never be unity or agreement as to what is right or wrong.
