I never found anything to satisfy my questions and desires to know God and myself, outside of Christian Science. Although I drifted away from practicing it after having attended Sunday School, and visited other churches, I did return. At the time I was a young mother, and wanted my son to have the truth.
Our family has seen many proofs of God's power and loving protection over the years; these have included healings of a skin condition and a crushed finger. Business problems have been resolved. The power of God's truth is infinite. Its light leaves nothing in darkness, and it heals all.
During the time I was not practicing Christian Science, it was considered the in thing to smoke cigarettes, and I quickly acquired the habit. I felt at that time that there was a special pleasure associated with friends, talk, and a cigarette. "However, to a man who uses tobacco, is profane, licentious, and breaks God's commandments, that which destroys his false appetites and lifts him from the stubborn thrall of sin to a meek and loving disciple of Christ, clothed and in his right mind, is not darkness, but light" (Message to The Mother Church for 1900 by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 6). One of the bigger blessings in my life was the healing of that habit, in which I learned that there is no pleasure to be found in a depraved appetite; that it must be destroyed by Truth, God, and not indulged. For many years I was enslaved to tobacco, but never gave up the study and practice of Christian Science. I would not have made it without Christian Science and God's help, for this addiction was so very strong.
