I have recently completed a three-year term as First Reader in my local branch church. This has been a great privilege and opportunity for spiritual growth. I especially appreciate the increased mental discipline and alertness that the job entails. During this period I experienced three physical healings that serve as landmarks in my understanding of the metaphysics of Christian Science.
The first occurred one Sunday morning at church when I stood up to read the Lesson-Sermon. At that point I lost normal vision. I could not make out the words on the pages. I looked up to see if I could catch the eye of someone in the congregation to appeal for help in prayer, but the sea of faces in front of me was also blurred. The thought came to me that this was similar to the picture on a television from which the aerial has been suddenly disconnected, and the words of the voice-over message used by the BBC sprang to mind: "Atmospheric interference—Do not adjust your set."
One minute I was severely afflicted, the next completely healed.
