God is "I am," not "I will be"

From the December 1996 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Are you waiting for things to get better? Someone with a tedious job awaits vacation. The harried parent looks forward to a time when the children will become more responsible. The unemployed person may feel he cannot begin to enjoy life until he finds a position. The sick await health. Others wait for dreams to come true.

While none of us would intentionally postpone good in our lives, isn't that what is happening when we are simply waiting for things to be better at a future time? To expect good to come with the passing of time, but to believe it is not here now, is to misunderstand the nature and origin of good. The Bible tells us that God is good and the source of all good, that He is all-powerful, ever-present Spirit, and that we are His beloved offspring now. God, then, is providing us right now with all that we need. This is the spiritual fact, despite appearances to the contrary. And because God is Spirit, good is spiritual, not material. It is a constant supply of spiritual ideas expressing the qualities of God.

Christian Science teaches how to utilize spiritual ideas and qualities, how to prove the power and presence of God, good, here with us, and thereby show that our lives are not determined by circumstance but filled with blessings. Good is here already. God causes it, not time. We have all the good of God available to prove at this moment.
