Letters

From the December 1996 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I just want to say "Thanks" for the great job the Christian Science magazines do at helping me prepare for the holidays. I used to approach the annual festivities with human micromanaging that everyone else had to fit into. Last December, some articles really clued me in to the possibility of letting the holidays happen in their own unique way

I especially recall Journal piece, "Quiet and prayer in the Christmas season," in which the writer told how she had left her complicated and extensive grocery list at home when shopping for an important family celebration. Through calming her thought and relying on God, she actually remembered every item on her long list accurately! Having attempted this myself with a less-than-prayerful approach, I was especially struck by this demonstration of divine Mind's harmonious control.

So, on Christmas Eve, after the children were sound asleep and the presents were prepared for the morning, I took some time to listen to a broadcast of Handel's Messiah, look at the lights on the tree, and welcome the Christ into thought on this special night of the year. That alone made last year's Christmas one of the most memorable in my life.
